DStv Premiership: Gameweek 20 Preview

Mamelodi Sundowns

Another round of DStv Premiership commences this weekend with more twists and turns expected. The objective seems clear now, which is to chase Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season and take it from there. With just a handful of matches to look forward to, let’s get down to the action.

Friday 25 February

Maritzburg United 14/10
Draw 2/1
Golden Arrows 2/1
(19:30)
Friday night sees Maritzburg United entertain Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium in yet another frenzy KZN derby. Both teams have been inconsistent this term with the hosts languishing in the bottom half of the campaign for most of the season, while Arrows have taken a huge drop of late and are winless in their last five DStv Premiership matches. As much as this should be entertaining, its extremely difficult to look past a draw here.

Saturday 26 February

Chippa United 14/10
Draw 2/1
Marumo Gallants 2/1
(15:30)

Chippa United remain in search of their first victory on home soil when they take on Marumo Gallants at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium. The Chilli Boys are just above the relegation zone, drawing seven of their nine matches played in Gqeberha. Gallants have surprised many this term and have done well to remain in and around midtable. My money, however, is on Chippa to claim their first victory at home.

Sekhukhune United 7/10
Draw 23/10
Swallows 17/4
(17:30)
Sekhukhune United claimed a memorable victory over Baroka last time out, recording an emphatic 4-0 victory over the Limpopo-based minnows. That win moved the hosts up to sixth on the standings and ended a run of five games without victory. Swallows have been one of the most disappointing teams this season and occupy the relegation/promotion spot. The Dube Birds have won just twice from 20 matches and seem destined for the drop this year. Back Sekhukhune United at all costs.

Baroka FC 11/2
Draw 5/2
Kaizer Chiefs 11/20
(19:30)
Baroka, as it stands, lie rock bottom of the DStv Premiership, but as history suggests, this is one team you can never write off against the big guns. Bagkaka proved how inconsistent they can be after losing 4-0 to Sekhukhune United, less than a week after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a draw. Kaizer Chiefs have been unpredictable this campaign as well, showing a lot more consistency though and are still in the mix to get second spot which will see them return to the CAF Champions League. As crazy as this may sound against this type of opposition, I fancy the Glamour Boys in this encounter.

Sunday 27 February

SuperSport United 13/10
Draw 2/1
Royal AM 22/10
(15:30)
Personally, I haven’t enjoyed watching SuperSport United this season. They’re in the top half of the table but it hasn’t been pleasing on the eye at times. In contrast, Royal AM have been a people’s team this season and have swung neutrals in their favour with their impressive style of play and flamboyance off the pitch. Victor Letsoalo has been a revelation for the visitors, netting 10 goals this term. Without any hesitation, I’m backing Royal AM to claim maximum points.

DOUBLE @ 9/2
Sekhukhune United Win 7/10
Royal AM Win 22/10
