National duty week has sadly come to an end after Bafana Bafana dubiously crashed out of the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. Now, domestic action is where our attention lies as Mamelodi Sundowns continue their dominance in the top flight of South African football.
Saturday 20 November
Golden Arrows 3/1
Draw 22/10
Orlando Pirates 9/10
(15:30)
Golden Arrows have had a disappointing start to the campaign and currently sit outside the top eight of the DStv Premiership. They’re winless in four league encounters and welcome Orlando Pirates, who are fresh off the back of their Soweto Derby defeat to Kaizer Chiefs before the FIFA break. Pirates have lost just twice this term, to Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. Mandla Ncikazi is under pressure but seems to be difficult to beat. My money is on a draw.
Stellenbosch 1/1
Draw 21/10
AmaZulu 28/10
(15:30)
Stellenbosch have got off to a flying start to their campaign and are two points clear in second spot. Stellies are the only unbeaten team in the division, alongside champions Mamelodi Sundowns. AmaZulu are just about in the top eight, winning just three of their 10 DStv Premiership matches played thus far. Before the break, Usuthu claimed an emphatic 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in Durban. I still think it would be hard to put Stellenbosch down to the ground, therefore, I fancy another stalemate.
Sekhukhune United 12/10
Draw 2/1
Royal AM 24/10
(15:30)
Fireworks will be expected this Saturday as Royal AM make the trip to Sekhukhune United, in search of all three points. The hosts have won four of their last five matches, losing only to Orlando Pirates in that run. In all four of those victories, Sekhukhune have kept clean sheets in each win. Royal AM are unbeaten in eight league games and are the highest scorers in the division with 18 goals to their name – so something has to give. I’ll take a huge risk here and back Royal AM at hefty odds.
Baroka FC 12/10
Draw 2/1
Chippa United 24/10
(17:00)
Chippa United will step foot onto the pitch for the first time under Kurt Lentjies after Gavin Hunt was suspended following a run of poor results. The Chilli Boys have lost five of their 10 games in the DStv Premiership, winning just once. Baroka are winless in five matches, however, they’re undefeated in their last two home encounters, claiming four points. This one is a banker for me with the hosts claiming maximum points.
SuperSport United 3/10
Draw 7/2
Marumo Gallants 10/1
(17:00)
Picking results doesn’t get much easier than deciding a winner between SuperSport United and Marumo Gallants. Matsatsantsa are third on the log with 18 points to their name, while the visitors are yet to pick up their first victory of the campaign, losing five of their nine ties this term. The price may not be enticing, but certainly one to add in all multiples.
Cape Town City 11/2
Draw 28/10
Mamelodi Sundowns 5/10
(17:30)
In a repeat of the MTN8 final, Mamelodi Sundowns will hope for another positive result when they meet Cape Town City again. Now in the Mother City, the hosts will be hoping for a better performance and result, although Sundowns’ league form suggests that they’re not going to go down lightly – or at all. The champions have won eight of their nine matches and look well and truly on their way to wrap up another title victory. My money is on Downs.
Sunday 21 November
TS Galaxy 14/10
Draw 2/1
Swallows FC 2/1
(15:30)
Sunday kicks off with a fairly dull affair as TS Galaxy host Swallows in the early kick-off. The hosts have lost seven times in the league this campaign, more than any other side in the division. Swallows, meanwhile, have drawn five times, scoring just twice in 10 matches. Not only is this match likely to see Under 2.5 Goals, but we could be subjected to a goalless draw here.
Maritzburg United 47/10
Draw 5/2
Kaizer Chiefs 6/10
(17:30)
Kaizer Chiefs have blown hot and cold this season and have been up and down the table this season. Amakhosi claimed a hard-fought victory over Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby before the break, which means Stuart Baxter’s men have now won three of their last four league games. Maritzburg United have been inconsistent, winning just three times all season. The Team of Choice usually give Chiefs a hard time, although I back the Glamour Boys here.
TREBLE @ 7/1
Royal AM Win 24/10
Sundowns Win 5/10
Kaizer Chiefs Win 6/10
