Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa closed off the season by bagging the Player of the Month award for May while Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena walked away with his second consecutive Coach of the Month totalling three accolades this season having won the same award in August.
Mabasa had a stellar season where he found the back of the net six times in 13 league games for Moroka Swallow prior to being called back to Orlando Pirates where he continued with his remarkable performances scoring 10 league goals in 13 matches and earning his first golden boot award with a total of 16 league goals. His goal in the final day against SuperSport United secured their spot in the CAF Champions League following their second-place finish in the log standings.
Mokwena on the other hand, led the Brazilians to their history-making seventh league title in succession with 73 points breaking the club’s highest point finish record of 71 points which Pitso Mosimane left before joining the Egyptian giants AL Ahly.
Masandawana played seven DStv Premiership games in the month of May winning five matches, two of their matches ended in stalemates while they were edged by Cape Town City 1-0 in the last match of the season.
Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will square off in the final of the Nedbank Cup final on 1 June at Mbombela Stadium. Sundowns are heading to this match with revenge on their minds following a 3-1 loss on penalties that they suffered in the MTN 8 final. We look to see if Mabasa can assist the Soweto Giants to defend their trophy.
Moroka Swallows’ Lindokuhle Mtshali walked away with the Goal of the Month award for the 18-yard strike that he scored in the 34th minute when his side defeated the high-flying Stellenbosch FC 2-0.
