Deano Van Rooyen delighted with Orlando Pirates’ start to the season

Deano Van Rooyen was delighted to have made his league debut for Orlando Pirates in the 2-1 Betway Premiership defeat of Chippa United.

The 27-year-old right-back played the full game at the Orlando Stadium last week as Tshegofatso Mabasa and Monnapule Saleng were on target to cancel out an early opener from Andile Jali.

Van Rooyen had already turned out for his new club away to Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League where he put in a solid performance in a 2-0 victory, before following that up in the second leg at the weekend as Bucs added one more goal for a 3-0 aggregate win.

Reflecting on his time at the Buccaneers so far, the player said in the Citizen: “I am happy to make my debut here at Orlando Stadium it was great feeling. We just can continue from here.

“If your mentality is right, you can achieve anything you want.

“Obviously, you must start with a win at home. It just boosts the confidence going forward to the next game and for the league going forward.”

Van Rooyen added: “(The fans) played a big part in the game; I feel that they are the 12th man in the field of play. They encourage us, I am happy for them to come in every week to the game.”

Pirates are next in action against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
