Dayot Upamecano’s future at Bayern Munich was uncertain at the end of last season, with rumours swirling about a potential departure.
However, the club surprisingly shifted focus to selling Matthijs de Ligt, ensuring the French defender’s stay.
Upamecano has since embraced life under new head coach Vincent Kompany, who took over in the summer.
Speaking about his new coach, Upamecano, 25, expressed his satisfaction. “I am very happy that he is with us at Bayern.
“He is a very good coach who plays good football,” the defender shared while on international duty with France.
Kompany’s influence, particularly as a former central defender, has already had a positive impact on Upamecano.
“He gives me a lot of advice because he played in my position for many years,” Upamecano said, adding, “I will make a lot of progress with him.”
The start of the new season has been promising for Bayern under Kompany.
The team comfortably advanced to the second round of the DFB Cup and secured victories in their first two Bundesliga fixtures.
Upamecano has featured in the starting lineup for all three of Bayern’s competitive matches, indicating the trust Kompany has in him to anchor the defence.
