Daylon Claasen is expected to sign for Polish side Lech Poznan, if he can iron out the final few details on his contract.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder passed a medical on Tuesday and was locked in talks with the club over his personal terms late last night.
Claasen is reported to have agreed terms on the move, but is waiting for his business manager, Rob Moore, to ratify the deal.
Poznan have made a fresh proposal which they hope will persuade the 23-year-old’s management team to end their search for a new club.
Claasen had pinned his hopes on a move to England and had trials with Everton, Hull City and Blackpool, as well as Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic and newly-promoted German Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig.
Hull and Blackpool were keen to bring him on board, but obtaining a work permit proved a problem.
He is still likely to push ahead with gaining Belgian citizenship, but the process is a lengthy one and could take up to a year.
Claasen would become the first South African to play in the Polish League.
Lech Poznan finished runners-up in the title race last season, but were dumped out of the UEFA Europa League earlier this month by Lithuanian side Zalgiris. They have six Polish League titles to their name, the last of which was won in 2010.
They are also regarded as the most supported team in Poland.
