Cape Town City have made a big statement by signing Bafana Bafana midfielder Ayanda Patosi. The Mother City-based club announced the signing of Patosi on Thursday via their official Twitter account. The 24-year-old joins from Belgian Pro League side KSC Lokeren, however, the length of his contract has not been disclosed.
Patosi reportedly turned down a three-year deal at Lokeren in December in search of a new challenge. He joins an already lethal attack which consists of Lebogang Manyama, Bhongolwethu Jayiya and Aubrey Ngoma.
Patosi was left out of Stuart Baxter’s 25-man squad to face Nigeria in the opening match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The pacey attacker will hope to revitalise his career and win back his position in the national team. He has 12 Bafana caps to his name‚ the last coming in November 2016‚ and has netted two goals.
Patosi’s best season of his career was in 2015/16 as he played almost all of Lokeren’s games, scoring seven goals with eight assists, before collecting two awards at the end of the campaign. He was also the highest-assist maker in the Jupiler Pro League the previous season.
Patosi’s spectacular goal for Bafana against Ghana in October showed he is still capable of brilliance and he’ll be a key man for Eric Tinkler next season. John Comitis means business and the big-name capture of Patosi is a real statement of intent.
