Chippa United secured their place in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday.
Bienvenu Eva Nga broke the deadlock at the Mbombela Stadium on the 30 minute mark ahead of a 91st minute penalty from Roscoe Pietersen.
The Chilli Boys are a much-improved side of late, after seeing off both Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 before putting two past a Galaxy side that have also recorded some strong results of late. Prior to this tie, the Rockets were unbeaten in their last five and came into this tie on the back of a 1-0 defeat of SuperSport United.
It was Galaxy who started this clash on the front foot with Samir Nurkovic in on goal early on, but he fluffed his shot after a smart turn in front of goal.
Nurkovic came close some 15 minutes later with a fierce volley that came back off the Chippa woodwork.
But Eva Nga made no mistake as he headed home a long-throw on the half-hour mark.
Nga came close to a second goal just before the half-time whistle but Rockets goalkeeper Fabrice Ntwari was equal to the task.
Lehlohonolo Mojela and Nurkovic were looking lively for the home team but without really threatening their opponents goal before Chippa substitute Elmo Kambindu fired just wide.
But it was the away team, who were ending the game the stronger of the two teams and Galaxy denied Chippa substitute Ronaldo Maarman with a goalline clearance.
Galaxy had a great chance to level terms but Chippa keeper Stanley Nwabali kept out a Sirgio Kammies penalty.
Pietersen then made no mistske when his team was awarded a spotkick and he buried the chance to secure Chippa’s place in the next round of the lucrative competition.
