Cape Town City’s CAF Competition fixtures announced alongside Royal AM and Marumo Gallants

Cape Town City has learned their opponent for the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League following the competition draw in Egypt on Tuesday.

The Citizens ended the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season in second place behind Champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a bye for the first round, and ahead of Royal AM, who were also present in the draw.

Eric Tinkler’s side will face the Congolese side AS Otoho D’Oyo.
The winner of City’s clash that takes place over two legs will face the winners of the preliminary round tie between Associacao Black Bulls and Angolan side Atletico Petroleos de Luanda.
Mamelodi Sundowns face Coton Sport or ASEC Mimosas in their second Preliminary round.
First-round games will take place at home on the weekend of September 9, ahead of the away tie on the weekend of the 16th.
Second-round matches start the weekend of October 7 at home.
Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, Marumo Gallants and Royal AM take the South African flag into the preliminary round along with 48 other teams.
Marumo Gallants have been afforded a bye in the preliminary round and will face the winner of matches 27 and 28 PWD Bamenda (Cameroon) vs Elgeco (Madagascar).
Royal AM will need to get past Mbabane Highlanders of Eswatini to progress to the next round of the tournament.
The preliminary round is set to kick off in September and the Round of 32 in October – both over two legs – and the 16 survivors advance to the group stage, which begins next February.
The CAF Confederation Cup, which has an additional qualifying round, pits Round of 32 winners against Champions League Round of 32 losers in November.
