In a thrilling first leg of the MTN8 semi-final, Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates played out a 1-1 draw at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday evening. The result gives Pirates a slight advantage heading into the second leg, thanks to Relebohile Mofokeng’s away goal.
The Buccaneers dominated the early stages, but it was Mofokeng who broke the deadlock in the 14th minute with a well-taken finish. City responded with increased pressure, but Pirates’ defense held firm.
Just before halftime, Chaine made a crucial save to deny Rhodes, keeping Pirates in the lead.
City came out firing in the second half, and their persistence paid off when Rhodes’ shot deflected off the Pirates defense and past Chaine.
Both teams had chances to snatch a winner in the final minutes, but the match ended in a draw. The second leg will take place on Saturday at Orlando Stadium where it’s all to play for.
