CAF CC: Stellenbosch continues their winning streak

Stellenbosch claimed a hard-fought 2-0 victory against CD Lunda Sul in the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld.

Andre de Jong broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with his first goal, before converting a penalty 15 minutes later to seal the win.

The result lifted the Betway Premiership side into second place in Group B with six points from four games, following their previous recent 1-0 win over the Angolan team, who sit bottom of the standings with one point.

Chances were few and far between in a tight first half, with only Chumani Butsaka threatening with two efforts from range that failed to test the travelling goalkeeper.

But Stellies were revitalised after the break and pushed for an opener, and it took just five minutes for De Jong to find the target with a confident finish.

De Jong then doubled his side’s lead from the spot soon after as Butsaka was upended inside the area.

There was little in the way of a response from the away team as Steve Barker’s side confidently saw out the remainder of the tie.
