The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards ceremony took place on Monday evening, in Morocco, celebrated the best of African football. Ronwen Williams had a particularly successful night, securing two awards early on.
Williams was recognized as the CAF Men’s Interclub Player of the Year for his outstanding performances with Bafana Bafana (South Africa’s national team) and Mamelodi Sundowns. He triumphed over strong competition from Hussein El Shahat of Al Ahly and Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ of Zamalek. Adding to his accolades, Williams also received the CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Despite these individual successes, both Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana (the South African women’s national team) missed out on the National Team of the Year awards, which went to Ivory Coast (men’s) and Nigeria (women’s). In the Club of the Year categories, Al Ahly (Egypt) won the men’s award, while TP Mazembe (DR Congo) took the women’s prize.
However, the night’s top honor, the CAF African Men’s Footballer of the Year, went to Ademola Lookman. His impressive performances for Atalanta and Nigeria in 2024 earned him this prestigious award, meaning Williams missed out on the biggest individual prize despite his two earlier wins.
