Broos confirms Injury Setback for Bafana and Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns star Mothobi Mvala has suffered a setback, sustaining an arm fracture that will keep him out of the upcoming Carling Knockout Cup final.

The injury also impacted his availability for selection in Bafana Bafana’s recent AFCON qualifier against South Sudan. During the pre-match interview with SABC Sport, Broos said,

“We made few changes to the line-up, for example Mvala can’t play because he has a fracture on his arm and it’s impossible to play. For the rest, we gave the other players the chance to show something, and I’m sure that’s motivation.” Broos said.

Bafana Bafana, under the guidance of Hugo Broos, secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over South Sudan, solidifying their position at the top of Group K and booking a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament. The team’s performance was impressive, with goals from Iqraam Rayners, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Teboho Mokoena.

Despite the positive result, the absence of Mvala was noticeable. His defensive prowess and leadership qualities are invaluable assets to both club and country. Sundowns will now have to rely on their depth in defense, with options like Grant Kekana, Mosa Lebusa, Malibongwe Khoza, and Rushine De Reuck.
