SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie is just seven goals away from becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer.

Following his brace against Maritzburg United on Saturday evening, the New Zealand international took his tally for Matsatsantsa to 51 strikes.

It’s an exceptional feat to be six goals away from the late Abraham Raselemane’s 11-year record, given that Brockie only arrived at the Tshwane club in 2015.

The 29-year-old submitted a transfer request last month after major interest from African champions Mamelodi Sundowns and was subsequently dropped by United coach Eric Tinkler as they refused to sanction the sale of their most prized asset to their cross-town rivals.

But his sheer professionalism shone through in the MTN8 semi-final, second leg against the Team of Choice with a predatory display from Brockie.

“Since I’ve been a kid I’ve dreamt of becoming a professional player. No matter what happens outside of the pitch, when I cross that line I’ve got a job to do,” he said after the game.

“The coach stuck by me the whole time and the boys, this is for them.”
