BREAKING: MTN8 PRIZE MONEY INCREASED

A chance to bag 10 million Rands is now on the card for this year’s MTN 8 participating team following the blockbuster announcement of the increase in the 2024 prize money for the winners and participating teams.

The announcement was made during the official launch of the tournament on Wednesday. This year’s winners will walk away with R10 million which has been increased from last year’s R8 million while the participating teams who previously bagged R800,000 will now be rewarded with R1 million.

This year’s campaign will feature newcomers TS Galaxy who finished sixth after an impressive season which saw them them reaching the final of the Carling Knockout Cup. They will kickstart their Wafa Wafa campaign with a visit to Stellenbosch FC who defeated them in the final of the Carling Cup. The match is set for August 4 at Danie Craven Stadium.

The defending champions, Orlando Pirates, will raise the curtain on this season’s showdown by hosting SuperSport United on August 3 at Orlando Stadium in a bid to lift the trophy for the third consecutive time.

Sekhukhune United had a disastrous campaign last season losing 5-0 to Pirates in their debut match thanks to goals from Zakhele Lepasa who scored a hattrick and single strikes from Monnapule Saleng and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo. They will get a chance at redemption when they take on Cape Town City on 10 August at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

DStv Premiership champions (now Betway Premiership) Mamelodi Sundowns who went out in the final last year will lock horns with Polokwane City in their opening match on 11 August at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
