Hugo Broos has announced the final Bafana Bafana squad to face Uganda and South Sudan ahead of the AFCON qualifiers.
Goalkeepers: Ricardo Goss (SuperSport United), Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu), Sipho Chaine (Orlando Pirates)
Defenders: Sydney Mobbie (SuperSport United), Thapelo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana (all Sundowns), Rushwin Dortley (Kaizer Chiefs), Nkosinathi Sibisi (Pirates), Fawaaz Basadien (Stellenbosch), Siyabonga Ngezana (FCSB, Romania)
Midfielders: Teboho Mokoena (Sundowns), Jayden Adams (Stellenbosch), Sphephelo Sithole (Gil Vicente, Portugal), Thalente Mbatha (Pirates)
Forwards: Themba Zwane (Sundowns), Iqraam Rayners (Sundowns), Oswin Appollis (Polokwane City), Patrick Maswanganyi (PIrates), Relebohile Mofokeng (Pirates), Elias Mokwana (ES Tunis, Tunisia), Lyle Foster (Burnley, England)
This group of players chosen to go out and represent South Africa are well-equipped to face both Uganda and South Sudan. Coach Hugo Broos has allowed a few new faces to impress on the international stage and hopefully keep their place in the squad after these two AFCON qualifying fixtures. Sipho Chaine (Pirates), Rushwin Dortley (Kaizer Chiefs), Fawaaz Basadien (Stellenbosch), and Thalente Mbatha (Pirates) have been given the green light by the Belgian mentor to don the green and gold colours of Bafana Bafana.
That being said, a host of household names have not made the cut to feature in these two AFCON qualifiers. Ronwen Williams (injured), Bruce Bvuma, Terrance Mashego, Thabiso Monyane, Given Msimango, Grant Margeman, Bathusi Aubaas, Mihlali Mayambela, and Luke Le Roux are a few names to mention that Broos has opted to leave out. This list of players that have been left out shows the depth and quality within the Bafana ranks that had been missing. After a successful 2023 AFCON campaign, where Bafana walked away with a third-place finish, Broos must allow his team to flex their muscles and go all out for the win.
