Barker: It would be a massive achievement

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker is eyeing three points against TS Galaxy on Wednesday to reach his target of 29 points set for the season.

Stellies just about avoided relegation last term but had been in sterling early season form before dropping off slightly to sit in fifth-place after 17 games.

They were without a win in six games before beating Baroka 1-0 on Saturday.

Barker’s charges now face a Galaxy side currently in 14th-place and fighting for their league survival, and also much improved since the arrival of Sead Ramovic.

Ahead of their last clash ahead of the holiday break, Barker expressed his delight at his side’s progress this season so far.

He said on SuperSport: “I think it would be a massive achievement and target to get there as quickly as 18 games.

“That’s what we set ourselves out to do and important also back-to-back victories in the PSL are really hard to come by and that will also be a massive achievement for us.

“It’s a difficult trip, TS Galaxy have turned the corner a bit, they are a competent team, a difficult team to beat at their home ground.

“But we’ve got one big effort left for this calendar year so we’re going there with a good mentality to go and give a good account of ourselves and improve on some of our performances of late and put in a performance that warrants three points.”
