Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker is targeting a result from his side’s DStv Premiership clash with Champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.
The Winelands club have started the new season unbeaten although they only have one win from their opening four games as they sit in seventh place on the standings.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have been well below par so far this term, winning just two games, alongside a draw and a loss. And after defeating the Brazilians 3-0 last season, Barker is eager for a repeat performance.
Ahead of the midweek encounter, he said on on FARPost: “We know they got good quality and depth, but we come from a good victory against them at the back end of last season away from home. We have to go to the game with belief and confidence that we can cause an upset.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity, and it is an exciting challenge that lies ahead. Obviously, Sundowns have been sort of benchmark for the last couple of seasons and coming from a treble season.”
Stellenbosch follow this game with an MTN8 quarter-final tie against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend.
Barker added: “It’s important to prioritise each game. The league match and the cup game are both as important. We want to get points from the Sundowns game. We believe we can do that.”
