Barcelona have moved decisively to secure the future of rising star Fermin Lopez, with the young midfielder set to sign an extended contract until 2029.
Lopez’s agent, Luis Alonso, was seen at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex, finalising terms with the club’s sporting director Deco. According to Marca, the agreement reflects Lopez’s impressive progress and includes a substantial pay increase.
Lopez’s contract was initially due to run until 2027, but Barcelona were keen to reward his rapid development and impactful performances with an additional two years. Having transitioned from a loan spell with third-tier Spanish side Linares Deportivo just over a year ago, Lopez has quickly established himself within Barcelona’s first team.
His ability to adapt and contribute both defensively and creatively has made him a vital asset in Xavi Hernandez’s lineup and, more recently, under the management of Hansi Flick.
The 20-year-old has also impressed on the international stage, contributing to Spain’s recent successes in both the UEFA European Championship and the Olympics.
This season, after a brief injury setback, Lopez returned with renewed form, featuring in high-stakes matches against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, where his control and vision strengthened Barcelona’s midfield.
Barcelona’s decision to extend Lopez’s contract is a testament to their long-term strategy of building around talented young players from within.
With his future now secured, Lopez is set to continue his journey with Barcelona, and the club will hope he plays a pivotal role in their future success.
