BARCELONA DEFENDER RONALD ARAUJO COULD BE OUT UNTIL OCTOBER WITH HAMSTRING INJURY

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he will undergo surgery for a torn hamstring in the coming days.

Araujo sustained the injury during Uruguay’s Copa America quarterfinal clash against Brazil last week and joins midfield duo Pedri and Gavi on the Blaugrana’s injury list.

“Tests carried out at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that first-team player Ronald Araujo has an injury to the hamstring tendon of his right thigh,” the statement from the club read.

“In the coming days, he will undergo surgical treatment by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical services, in Turku (Finland). At the end of the intervention, a new medical statement will be provided.”

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old, along with national teammate Darwin Nunez, is part of an investigation by CONMEBOL – which is the Confederation of South American football – for his involvement in a fight between Uruguay players and Colombia fans following the Copa America semi-final between Uruguay and Colombia.

A punishment from CONMEBOL would see him miss international action but if the matter is escalated Barcelona could be affected.
