According to reports, Gqeberha-born winger Azola Matrose is heading back to his roots at Chippa United after a challenging two season spell at Orlando Pirates.
The 21-year-old, who initially made waves in the then 2021/22 DStv Premiership with the Chilli Boys in before a high-profile move to the Buccaneers, will now look to reignite his career where it all began.
Matrose joined Pirates ahead of the 2022/23 topflight season, but was immediately loaned back to the Gqeberha-based outfit to further his development.
Despite returning to the Soweto giants last year, the young talent struggled to break into the first team and spent most of his time with the reserve side, with his time plagued by injuries and limited opportunities.
In a bid to revive his career, Matrose has agreed to a permanent transfer back to Chippa, where he’ll reunite with coaches Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September, known for their development of young players.
The Chilli Boys, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, are aiming for a top-eight finish and see Matrose as a key addition to their squad. The winger is expected to join his new teammates next week.
He joins a growing list of new signings at Chippa United, including veteran Andile Jali and former TS Galaxy winger Aphelele Teto.
