Newly appointed Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has been handed a clear mandate from the Ghanaian giants’ hierarchy: deliver the Ghana Premier League title.
The experienced South African tactician was officially unveiled this week, with club officials pledging their full backing while making it clear that success is non-negotiable.
Speaking during Tinkler’s official unveiling, Asante Kotoko board member James Osei Brown urged the experienced coach to assemble a title-winning squad capable of restoring the club to the summit of Ghanaian football.
“The expectation is that we want you to win us the league and then take us to where all of us want us to be. You have our full support,” Brown said, as quoted by Modern Ghana
Tinkler arrives in Kumasi with an impressive coaching résumé built over more than a decade in South African football. He has previously managed Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United, Bidvest Wits and, most recently, Babina Noko.

His coaching highlights include guiding Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and leading SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final. He has also enjoyed domestic cup success, lifting trophies such as the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have officially begun preparations for the new campaign, with Tinkler overseeing the club’s pre-season training programme.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to get underway in September, giving the South African coach just a few weeks to mould his squad into genuine title contenders.
