SuperSport United caretaker coach Andre Arendse doesn’t want to see club captain Ronwen Williams leave the DStv Premiership club.
The 30-year-old Bafana Bafana skipper has spent his entire career with Matsatsantsa were he has won the Nedbank Cup twice as well as the MTN8.
He missed out on the club’s three successive league title from 2007 to 2010, having made the step up from the SuperSport academy in 2011.
Williams has previously been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates but he opted to remain with his club, however, he could now be tempted away – as a new era begins – following the sacking of head coach Kaitano Tembo this season.
Arendse said on KickOff: “First and foremost if I was Ronwen coach my first action would fight tooth and nail to keep him.
“He is the club’s number one, he is the country’s number one and he is the captain.
“But at the same time I will never stand in any player’s wishes, that’s very important.
“I have been there and I don’t want to be that coach to deprive someone of going to better himself whether to earn more money or play at a higher level.
“I would never because I understand what it means and I was in that situation before.
“So if it’s Rowen’s wish to stay I will be the happiest man in the world and if he wishes to go I will support him 100%.”
