AmaZulu FC held a press conference on Monday at Moses Mabhida Stadium where club president Sandile Zungu addressed the media ahead of the 2024/25 PSL season.
After a monumental 40-year partnership, Zungu announced their split with long-time front-of-shirt sponsor Spar. Sleeve sponsor Grindrod is also parting ways with the club.
“We owe Spar a great deal of gratitude for their unwavering support over the past four decades,” said AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu. “This sponsorship might be the longest-running in DStv Premiership history, and it played a vital role in the team’s growth.”
However, Zungu emphasized that change can breed new opportunities. While details remain under wraps, he hinted at an “exciting new and improved” sponsor to be unveiled at a press conference later this month at Zunguness.
The president then addressed the issue pertaining to a lack of singings, despite four players leaving the club. Zungu acknowledged that official announcements of new signings are taking longer than expected. The reason? Apparently, some potential signings have failed their medical examinations.
Despite preseason already underway in Gauteng, the club is yet to officially unveil any recruits. Rumors swirl about several players joining the club, but the KZN-based club is exercising patience in confirming them.
He went on to promise a “styleful” reveal of their “exciting new signings” at a press conference scheduled for the end of the month. Several players have already begun training in their new colors at the team camp, and according to Zungu, “everything is on track” with preseason preparations.
Finally, he went on to confirm that Abbubaker Mobara and Thembela Sikhakhane are still AmaZulu FC players, despite reports linking them with moves away from Usuthu.
It’s clear that the Zungu family has played a pivotal role in propelling AmaZulu FC forward. Now, with a new sponsor on the horizon and exciting signings expected, the club seems poised for another chapter in its storied history.
The press conference at the end of July is poised to be a one-stop shop for all the latest developments, revealing the new sponsor, the official kit adorned with that sponsor’s logo, and most importantly, the faces of the exciting new signings who will be donning those kits on the pitch.
