Black Leopards head coach Alan Clark admits it was disappointing to come away from their Absa Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates with nothing.
Lidoda Duvha looked set for at least a point at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday as the two sides were locked at 0-0, but a stoppage-time own goal from Thabiso Mokoena gave Pirates all three points.
The fact that Buccaneers goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands earned the man-of-the-match award is a testament to how well Leopards played, according to Clark.
“Tough 90 minutes like we knew it would be but I think the boys gave a great account of themselves and I think we were very unfortunate not to walk away with any point,” Clark told SuperSport TV.
“I thought we probably had better chances in the game, you see the goalkeeper [Wayne Sandilands] gets Man of the Match [award], he makes two outstanding saves from Edwin Gyimah and another one from Robert Ng’ambi and he keeps them in the game.
“I think they are a great attacking side Orlando Pirates, but they didn’t really cause us too many problems, a lot of possession but I thought we were well organised, defensively.
“Once they had the ball, they never really hurt us honestly, until a very unfortunate own goal from one of our players, it lands the ball in the back of the net. Until then I thought we were deserving at least a point today. Credit must to to the boys for the effort that they put in, they deserved something out of this game to be fair.”
