Akpeyi: Daniel will be a good addition to any team

Daniel Akpeyi is in talks about potentially signing for a new DStv Premiership club for the upcoming league season.

The 35-year-old Nigerian goalkeepr was one of ten players released by Kaizer Chiefs last week as part of a club overhaul.

He played just 12 games in all competitions and was therefore deemed surplus to requirements by Amakhosi.

Sekhukhune United and Royal AM are both possible destinations for the former Chippa United keeper, with his agent Mohammed Lawal telling KickOff: “There has been interest in Daniel from clubs in the PSL, so we are busy at the moment though nothing is concrete.

“We have been talking to clubs because as you know he is going to be out of contract at the end of the month so obviously clubs know that Chiefs are not renewing his contract.

“We are definitely in talks with those that are interested but nothing has been finalised yet with any of the teams. But there is definite interest.

“He will possibly stay in the PSL because he has been here for a while and his family is here and he is happy. But then in football you can never say never. The fact is if an opportunity comes from elsewhere and we find it good enough we will definitely move. It doesn’t mean that it is a must for him to stay in the PSL.

“Daniel is a quality team player and will be a good addition to any PSL team and the plus is that he plays as a local.”
