Adnan Beganovic blames player sales for TS Galaxy’s second-round collapse

The Rockets have built a reputation for developing talent, but that success has also seen key players regularly snapped up by bigger clubs.

Over the past year, the likes of Samukelo Kabini (Molde), Fiacre Ntwari (Kaizer Chiefs), Lehlohonolo Mojela (Stellenbosch FC), Kamogelo Sebelebele (Orlando Pirates), and Lebone Seema (Pirates) have all departed.

However, Beganovic believes the mid-season exits of two key figures proved particularly damaging. Puso Dithejane joined Chicago Fire, while Khulumani Ndamane moved to Mamelodi Sundowns during the January window.

Both players had been central to Galaxy’s strong first-round showing, with Dithejane especially impressing after winning two Player of the Month awards and attracting attention from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

Speaking on Metro FM, Beganovic suggested the club’s transfer approach ultimately disrupted momentum.

“Obviously, it’s one of the reasons why we struggled in the second round. When you lose players, it’s not always forced – we decide to sell,” he said.

“You can manage it at the end of the season, but doing it consistently, especially mid-season, affects quality.”

He admitted he had hoped to retain both Dithejane and Ndamane, highlighting their influence beyond just performances on the pitch.

“Dithejane was in top form and could have contributed even more goals. Ndamane, on the other hand, brought leadership and character. Some players give more than what you see during matches,” he explained.

Beganovic added that replacing such qualities proved difficult, particularly in defence, where Galaxy became more vulnerable after Ndamane’s departure.

The Nedbank Cup finalists also sold left-back Qobolwakhe Sibande to Egyptian side Petrojet SC in the same window, further weakening the squad.

With Beganovic gone, Galaxy have resorted to their former player Bernard Parker to be in charge on an interim basis.

Galaxy are set to host Magesi FC in a league clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
