Absa Premiership: Gameweek 26 Preview

Absa Premiership: Gameweek 26 Preview We witnessed some shocking results last week with Baroka surprising Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United getting the better of AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium and Maritzburg United rising from their ruins to record a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic. Most of these could have been impossible to predict, but what does this week have in store for us.

Chippa United 7/2

Draw 47/20

Bidvest Wits 8/10

(20:00)

Chippa United recorded a shock 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium but they’re still in the relegation dogfight as they are tied on 24 points with Free State Stars who are second from the bottom. On the other hand, the Clever Boys gave a good account of themselves in the top of the table clash against Orlando Pirates only to be let down by a 93rd minute own goal by Keagan Ritchie which saw them lose 1-0. Gavin Hunt’s men are now third on the log and a victory would keep them in the title race. Back the visitors to amass maximum points.

Black Leopards 34/10

Draw 43/20

Kaizer Chiefs 17/20

(15:00)

Mwape Musonda continued his fantastic scoring form against Polokwane City on the weekend despite his team losing the Limpopo derby 3-1. The league’s leading goalscorer will be hoping to help his team climb up from their current 12th position. Kaizer Chiefs unexpectedly lost 1-0 to Baroka last week in a match where they failed to create any chances. Amakhosi will be looking to turn the corner ahead of their Nedbank Cup encounter with Chippa United. These sides should cancel each other out.

Highlands Park 8/10

Draw 43/20

Maritzburg United 37/10

(20:15)

Highlands Park were not involved in any competitive football this past weekend. They are the most draw-laden team with 12 of their 24 games ending in draws. They have won six and lost the same amount of games. Maritzburg United staged a dramatic comeback last week when they came back from a goal down to record a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic with Allan Kateregga coming off the bench to bag a brace. I think bottom-placed Team of Choice are fired up and they should triumph here.

Orlando Pirates 9/20

Draw 29/10

Free State Stars 6/1

(20:15)

Top-placed Orlando Pirates needed a last-gasp own goal to beat Bidvest Wits 1-0 on the weekend before facing Black Leopards in midweek. They will be hoping to open up a gap between themselves and second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns who would have played two games less on the weekend due to continental commitments. They face a Free State Stars side that hasn’t played since the middle of last month and I expect the visitors to be rusty. Pirates are in the title race and it’s games like these where they have to capitalise. Put your money on the Buccaneers.

SuperSport United 14/10

Draw 19/10

Polokwane City 22/10

(20:15)

SuperSport haven’t played since the middle of last month but they head into this match off the back of a three-match unbeaten run. A victory would see them having an outside chance of challenging for the title. Polokwane City ran riot last week against Black Leopards where they came back from a goal down to win 3-1. Rise And Shine are unbeaten in their last seven league games with four draws and three wins. They should be too much for a side that hasn’t played competitive football in ages. Last week’s performance gives me confidence in backing the visitors.

Bloemfontein Celtic 26/10

Draw 2/1

Cape Town City 11/10

(15:00)

Bloemfontein Celtic are winless in their last six league games and they gave up a 1-0 lead against Maritzburg United to lose 2-1 last week. They have also been recently knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Golden Arrows. Cape Town City missed out on a chance to be part of the league title race when they lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows last week. Benni McCrathy’s men are now winless in their last three competitive games. I foresee this match ending in a draw.

Golden Arrows 27/20

Draw 19/10

AmaZulu 23/10

(15:00)

This is a KZN derby between two teams with contrasting fortunes as Golden Arrows have won their last two matches which is the total opposite of AmaZulu who have lost both their recent league outings. Arrows will have one eye on the Nedbank Cup semi-final where they face TS Galaxy. Usuthu have just parted ways with defender Ayabulela Konqobe due to undisclosed reasons. The momentum is with Steve Komphela’s Abafana Bes’thende and I expect them to in this one.

TREBLE @ 7/1

Bidvest Wits Win 8/10

Black Leopards v Kaizer Chiefs Win 17/20

Orlando Pirates Win 9/20
