The Zimbabwean forward has been in impressive form since the start of the 2026/27 season, scoring seven goals in four matches in all competitions while providing one assist.
However, Usuthu have lost both matches in which the 28-year-old has scored a brace, losing 4-3 in their MTN8 quarter-final to Sekhukhune United and being well beaten by Mamelodi Sundowns in their midweek Betway Premiership clash.
Head coach Arthur Zwane has praised his star attacker but has also urged more of his players to contribute with goals despite Ngwenya’s sterling early season form.
“It’s good to see him scoring goals,” said Zwane after the loss to the African champions.
“The only concern is that it can’t be only him who scores for us. Others also need to take responsibility. You can’t rely on him, because if he gets injured again, then we’re going to have a problem.
“We’re just hoping that Thando will be available for selection all the time. You must have seen that towards the end of the game (against Sundowns), he started cramping, and that was a warning sign for us.”
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit will be in action next Friday when they clash with rivals Richards Bay.
