MTN8: Orlando Pirates to face Sekhukhune as MTN8 semi-final draw is made

Defending champions Orlando Pirates will face Sekhukhune United in the semi-finals of the 2026 MTN8, while Mamelodi Sundowns have been drawn against Golden Arrows.

The semi-final pairings were confirmed at FNB Stadium on Sunday after Arrows completed a memorable weekend by eliminating Kaizer Chiefs from the competition.

Pirates secured their place in the last four on Saturday with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Durban City at Orlando Amstel Arena. Ghampani Lungu scored the decisive goal in the 120th minute to keep the Buccaneers’ bid for a fifth consecutive MTN8 title alive.

Sundowns were also pushed beyond 90 minutes before overcoming Polokwane City 3-2 at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Cassius Mailula, returning to the club after his spell in Major League Soccer, struck five minutes from the end of extra time to settle an absorbing quarter-final.

Sekhukhune produced the weekend’s most entertaining contest on Sunday, beating AmaZulu 4-3 after extra time at Chatsworth Stadium to earn their place in the semi-finals.

Golden Arrows, meanwhile, provided the major upset of the quarter-finals by defeating Chiefs 1-0 at FNB Stadium. Khulekani Shezi scored the only goal early in the second half to send Abafana Bes’thende through.

Pirates will now meet Sekhukhune in one semi-final, while Sundowns will face Arrows as the remaining four clubs compete for a place in the MTN8 final.
