CAF president Patrice Motsepe has reiterated that he intends to step down when his second term ends in 2029, ruling out the possibility of seeking another mandate.
Speaking at a press conference in Sandton on Wednesday, the South African businessman dismissed any suggestion that he could be persuaded to remain beyond the two terms he has already committed to serving.
“There are certain things you should never be persuaded about,” Motsepe said. “And nobody is going to persuade me to spend more than two terms as CAF president.”
Motsepe, who previously owned Mamelodi Sundowns, was elected to lead African football in 2021 and secured a second mandate four years later. His tenure has been marked by efforts to improve the financial stability of CAF competitions, strengthen governance and increase investment in football across the continent.

He also rejected speculation linking him with a future bid to replace Gianni Infantino as Fifa president, making it clear that he remains firmly behind the Swiss administrator.
“I personally support Infantino. He is a good friend, a loyal friend,” Motsepe said.
“He is loyal to Africa. I come from a different background. When people have been loyal to you, you never stab them in the back.”
Motsepe added that his focus remains on the development of African football rather than pursuing a role at world governing body Fifa.
“To help in Africa, that excites me. Fifa doesn’t need me as president,” he said. “There are other people who are very good and who do a good job. We have to be careful that we don’t start focusing too much on certain individuals. Everybody makes a contribution.”
