Orlando Pirates have confirmed the imminent transfer of star player Relebohile Mofokeng to Belgian Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Pirates and Union Saint-Gilloise, who will be campaigning in the Uefa Champions League in the new season, have agreed on a transfer fee for the talented youngster.

“While the two clubs have concluded negotiations over the transfer fee and structure of the deal, Orlando Pirates can confirm that the move remains subject to Mofokeng passing a medical examination and finalising personal terms with the Belgian Pro League side,” said the South African champions in a statement.

Pirates also went on to clarify Mofokeng wasn’t signed because of his 2026 Fifa World Cup performance with Bafana Bafana, as a deal had already been agreed.

“The club can also reveal that an agreement in principle between Orlando Pirates and Union Saint-Gilloise was in fact reached before the start of the Fifa World Cup,” reads the statement.

“Both parties made the joint decision to hold off on any public announcement until after the tournament, wanting Mofokeng to focus fully on the World Cup with Bafana Bafana without the distraction of transfer talk, and to allow the national team’s historic run to take centre stage.

“No further comment will be made at this time until the process between the player and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise has been fully concluded.”

Mofokeng leaves the Sea Robbers having won everything on offer in the South African domestic football.

The two-time winner of the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season recently played a starring role in the Buccaneers winning their first league title in 14 years.

The 21-year-old also won two Nedbank Cup titles, three MTN8 trophies and a single Carling Knockout.

Mofokeng is a frontrunner for the PSL Player of the Season for the recently finished season.
