Chiefs will do everything to be ready for Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed the club will do everything possible to best prepare to be competitive against Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto derby.

Chiefs appear to be out of the running for the Premiership title in 2018/19 however could still mount a late charge should they find more consistent form in the league.

The Glamour Boys have just the Nedbank Cup and the PSL left to play for in the current campaign, though Middendorp takes the view that looking ahead with a positive mindset is key.

He told reporters: “Starting on 7 December, taking the team in a certain position [fifth], I don’t believe with the number of games in front of us we can talk about what’s possible and what’s not.

“I think that’s definitely not a situation where you can look forward to saying that this or that will happen. We will do everything in our power to be well prepared for the next game (against Pirates), and then we will see.

“I think we will see some other surprises, not only what happened with Sundowns losing at home or other teams playing a draw when nobody was expecting it, and it’s good, very interesting to see.

“We are aware about [our shortcomings]. I think in certain departments we should and can do better.”

Saturday’s action gets underway from 15:30 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
