Ramaphosa addressed the nation during Hugo Broos’ unveiling of the final 26-man squad, where players were introduced at a grand ceremony.
Bafana are not expected to win the global showpiece but the team were given a rousing send-off and some motivation by a proud Ramaphosa.
The President urged the team to do their best, as they face Mexico, South Korea and the Czech Republic in Group A when the competition kicks off on June 11.
“I will be there when you lift the trophy on July 19, and I will gladly declare it a public holiday,” Ramaphosa said. “So, South Africans, you can be sure that another unexpected holiday is coming.”

Bafana last appeared at the 2010 World Cup, having qualified as hosts. This will be the nation’s fourth appearance at the finals.
“History has presented this generation of Bafana Bafana with a rare opportunity: to rise again and reclaim South Africa’s place among the elite in world football.
“So, we ask you to do one thing: seize the moment. This is your moment, and South Africa’s moment,” added Ramaphosa.
