Thabo Cele’s campaign has been disrupted by injuries and rotation, limiting him to 16 league appearances and sidelining him for large parts of the club’s CAF Confederation Cup run.
Competition for places in midfield has also seen him battle for consistency, with the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu and Lebohang Maboe among those vying for selection.
However, the 29-year-old has recently forced his way back into the picture, featuring in Chiefs’ last four matches and contributing to their improved run of form, including the 1-1 draw away to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Cele was honest about the psychological demands of his season and the challenge of staying ready despite setbacks.

“It’s not been easy for me personally because you want to reach a certain level and a certain standard. But when things are not working out for you, you need to remain calm and keep working like I’ve been doing,” he said.

Cele’s return to the team couldn’t have come at a better time, as Amakhosi continue with their quest for a top-three finish in the league, which will see them qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
The Glamour Boys are occupying third place on the league standings with 48 points from 27 matches. Chiefs’ next match is against Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
