Gavin Hunt slams “disgraceful” decision as Stellenbosch lose to Richards Bay

Genino Palace levelled for Stellenbosch just three minutes later but Moses Mthembu sealed all three points for Richards Bay with his 52nd minute penalty.

The loss brought an end to Stellies’ eight-match unbeaten run, with the result leaving Hunt’s team in ninth place on the Betway Premiership standings with 28 points from 23 games.

Reflecting on the result, a disappointed Hunt explained that his team should have won the tie, calling the penalty call “disgraceful”.

He said on IOL: “It’s a problem, we should have won the game comfortably, we were by far the better team.

“But then you get decisions like that in football, which is going to happen, I said it’s going to happen.

“It was coming up this week in the game, so we know it’s going to come. It was a disgraceful decision and that’s why the football in South Africa can’t get better.”

Stellenbosch are only in action again next weekend against Sekhukhune United at Athlone Stadium.
