Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has weighed in on Amakhosi’s ongoing battle with inconsistency, as the Soweto giants continue to search for stable form in a season that has quickly lost momentum.
Chiefs opened their campaign with promise, but a damaging run of four consecutive defeats, including a poor showing in the Soweto derby exposed familiar weaknesses.
Although they managed to edge Durban City 1–0 last weekend to halt the slump, the victory did little to mask a broader issue: an inability to deliver consistent performances.
Dove insists the problem is not down to effort. Speaking to Soccer Beat, he said: “A club of Chiefs’ magnitude has to be at the top, and the fans will always demand that.

”I know the hard work the guys put in, and it’s frustrating for the players when results don’t come. It’s a lot of kilometres being covered behind those doors that people don’t see.”
He added: “If I tell someone to go to the KC Village and see the amount of work that has been put in behind the scenes by the players, it’s unbelievable.”
For Dove, the gap between preparation and performance has only intensified pressure on the squad as frustration grows among supporters, yet he maintains that pressure is part of what defines Chiefs.
“Kaizer Chiefs is one of the biggest teams not only in South Africa but in Africa,” he added. “Pressure is good sometimes, it helps us understand where we are. You can’t expect not to have pressure playing for Chiefs.”
Despite the current struggles, Dove remains optimistic: “It’s just one of those moments where you go through a rough patch, but it won’t continue forever. At some point, it will turn around. The supporters deserve to be happy, and the club deserves to be at the top.”
