PSL: Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema elaborates on PSL title race after stalemate with Orlando Pirates

Seema’s side frustrated the Soweto Giants with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon, a result that could influence the momentum of the title battle.

The Mighty Buccaneers were forced to settle for a point after Tshepang Moremi cancelled out Vincent Pule’s opening goal in the first half.

The dropped points could prove costly for Pirates as Sundowns continue their impressive run of form.

The reigning champions have now won seven consecutive league matches and face Marumo Gallants on Tuesday. A victory for Sundowns would move them two points clear of Pirates at the top of the standings.

Despite the setback for the Buccaneers, Seema believes they have enough quality to remain in contention for the championship until the very end of the campaign.

“Pirates are a good team and I think they will push until the last game to challenge for the title,” Seema told SuperSport.

While the title race intensifies between Sundowns and Pirates, Seema admits Siwelele’s focus remains on rebuilding and securing their top-flight status this season.

“Let’s get to 30 points so that the season can finish. Then next season we can build a new team that will challenge better in Johannesburg,” he explained.

The Siwelele coach has also begun giving opportunities to younger players as he looks to lay the foundation for the future.

“As Siwelele, last week Samkelo Zwane started and we had some players who were not even here today. We are trying to manage the squad and give others a chance,” Seema said.

He added that several players from the club’s DDC side have impressed when called upon, and he encouraged them to celebrate their efforts with supporters after a spirited performance.
