Ndaba joined Orlando Pirates from Richards Bay FC at the start of the season alongside striker Yanela Mbuthuma, arriving as the Buccaneers reshaped their left‑back options following Innocent Maela’s retirement and Paseka Mako’s surprise move to Kaizer Chiefs.
With Deon Hotto remaining the first-choice option on the left side of defence, Ndaba has had to be patient for opportunities. However, the youngster has impressed when called upon by coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, already making 14 appearances in all competitions.
Speaking to KickOff, Maela expressed confidence in the young defender’s ability, saying he had already seen Ndaba’s qualities during his time at Richards Bay.
“I know the boy, even from Richards Bay,” Maela said.
“He is a good left-back with lots of potential. He plays like a solid modern left-back and he defends well.”
Maela also highlighted the attacking side of Ndaba’s game, noting that the defender is comfortable on the ball and capable of linking up effectively with teammates.
“Obviously there are certain elements that he needs to improve, but he also attacks well. He has good touches and can play very well in small spaces. He combines really well with the players around him and also how he defends when the ball is far away from him.”
The former Pirates skipper, who made 209 competitive appearances for the club, believes Ndaba’s positioning and defensive awareness will continue improving as he gains more experience and being at the Buccaneers will help accelerate his career.
“His body positioning and angles are good. Obviously he has a lot to learn, but he has a player like Hotto, who is a top, top left-back, to learn from,” Maela said.
“Keep being respectful. Even when things are not looking too bright, he must just keep on going and working hard every day. So far he has done really well with the chances he has gotten. We will continue watching him and wishing him the best.”
