Thulani Gumede’s 68th‑minute strike secured victory for Richards Bay at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex, leaving Kaizer Chiefs winless in their last four matches across all competitions and sitting fifth in the league with 30 points from 18 games.

Richards Bay are in ninth place with 23 points from 19 matches.

Reflecting on the encounter, Kaze pleaded for calm amid calls for his head from disgruntled supporters.

He said in the Citizen: “This is a difficult time for us and sometimes teams go through things like this but it’s important that we stay calm and find solutions because if we start panicking then things might get bad.

“We need to stay calm, we need to keep our heads and try to find solutions.”

Kaze added that an injury to vice-captain Inacio Miguel before kick-off, as well as the absence of the suspended Zitha Kwinika, also affected their performance.

“I believe we were not good enough offensively and defensively as well,” Kaze said.

“To lose Miguel in the warm-up and Zitha to suspension and having to change the defence wasn’t ideal and I think that cost us the game.”
