Sinethemba Jantjie passed away

Free State Stars have announced the tragic news that attacking midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie passed away in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to reports, the player was involved in a car accident in Bethlehem and sadly lost his life in the incident. The collision occurred at around 6am on Monday.

Jantjie was a rising star in the Premiership despite being a late-bloomer at the highest level.

The 30-year-old made his debut for Stars into his late 20s in 2016/17 after previously playing for Mbombela United in the National First Division.

Speaking to TimesLIVE, the club’s general manager Rantsi Mokoena said: “They are trying to get in touch with his sister, because he didn’t have parents anymore, before releasing a statement. It happened around 6am.”

Jantjie had signed a pre-contract to play for Bidvest Wits next season and clearly had the best years of his career to look forward to.

Vodacom Soccer extend our sympathies to his loved ones during this difficult time.
