Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has delivered an emotional appeal to the club’s supporters, calling for unity after recent tension between himself and the Masandawana faithful.
Following Sundowns’ 2–0 Betway Premiership victory over Sekhukhune United, Cardoso was seen celebrating passionately in front of the fans — a striking contrast to the scenes that unfolded days earlier after their CAF Champions League draw against Al Hilal.
That stalemate at home drew visible frustration from the stands, with supporters chanting the name of former coach Pitso Mosimane, underlining their dissatisfaction with both the performance and Sundowns’ recent form.
The moment appeared to hit a nerve with the Portuguese tactician, who has now spoken openly about the emotional toll of the job and his desire to reconnect with the fanbase.
“That celebration was about showing the supporters that we are on the same side,” said Cardoso in the post-match presser.
“What we wear on our shirts is what we carry in our hearts — the spirit of Ubuntu. I want them to understand that I’m one of them, that I’m here to help the club. And yes, I’m also a human being. I have energy. I have emotions.

“During matches, I try to control myself, but there are moments you must live. I lived the pleasure my players gave me today by staying loyal to our plan, believing in what we prepared, and fighting until the end.”
Cardoso went on to stress the importance of togetherness within the club, especially during difficult periods.
“I repeat, we must stay committed and united — everyone in the Masandawana family. And family means exactly that: sticking together in all moments. We started the season very well. We didn’t get the points we wanted in the Champions League, but we played good football.
“We must keep Chloorkop focused, closed, and strong. If we stand together, we will overcome the difficult moments and create many more strong moments like today.
“That was simply my reaction.”
