Heading into the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Christmas break, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit were enjoying a four-match unbeaten run, recording three draws and one victory. That run helped the Rich Boys steady their campaign after an inconsistent start to the season.

Richards Bay begin their first league match of the year sitting ninth on the standings with 17 points from 15 matches. With ambitions of breaking into the coveted Top 8, maximum points will be crucial, especially with eighth-placed Durban City five points ahead.

In a bid to finish the second half of the season strongly, the club has bolstered its squad with several key signings.

Experienced defender Thembela Sikhakhane has joined the ranks, along with Namibian international Tuli-Ngenovali and eSwatini-based striker Joel Madondo, additions expected to add both stability and firepower.

However, Richards Bay will face a stern test against a Siwelele FC side desperate to find consistency in their maiden Betway Premiership campaign. The Free State-based outfit have blown hot and cold this season and will be keen to climb the table.

In their final four matches before the end-of-year break, Siwelele recorded one win, two draws and a defeat. They currently occupy 11th position on the log with 16 points from 15 matches – just one point behind their hosts.

The previous meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless draw, and another tightly contested affair is expected on Friday.
