Tottenham secure Souza on long-term deal from Santos

Souza arrives in north London with a growing reputation after breaking into Santos‘ first team and establishing himself in Brazil’s top flight. The teenager described the move as a dream come true after growing up watching English football

“It’s an incredible feeling to join a really big club like Spurs,” Souza said. “I grew up watching the Premier League, so this is a childhood dream for me. This is a big step in my development and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

The defender also highlighted the contrast between English and Brazilian football. “The Premier League is very different to what I’m used to in Brazil. It’s going to be a real challenge, but I can’t wait to get started and help the team.”

Head coach Thomas Frank believes Spurs have secured one of the most exciting young defenders in world football. “I’m really pleased to add Souza to our squad,” Frank said. “He is a talented and promising young full-back who is forward-thinking and technically very strong. We believe he can help us now and develop into an even better player in the future.”

Born in Maua, Sao Paulo, Souza joined Santos as a child and progressed through the club’s academy before making his senior debut in the Campeonato Paulista. He went on to make his Serie A debut last season and has already registered 24 appearances at senior level.

A Brazil Under-17 international, Souza featured five times at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in 2023, helping Brazil reach the quarter-finals. He will wear the number 38 shirt at Spurs and says his immediate aim is clear: “I want to play well, help the team win and keep improving every day.”
