Bryan Mbeumo admits he’s eager to make an impact for Cameroon at his first ever Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old Manchester United striker began his international career in the youth ranks of the French national side before switching his allegiance in 2022, just four months before the start of World Cup in Qatar.

Avallon-born Mbeumo previously represented France at U21 level, making six appearances for Les Bleuets after progressing through the country’s youth ranks.

He opted to represent the birthplace of his father and is now set to feature in his first AFCON, having missed the previous edition in Ivory Coast through injury.

Speaking to CAFOnline, the former Brentford and Troyes attacker said: “I’m really excited. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, and I’m very happy to be part of the squad here in Morocco.

“It’s a source of pride for all Africans. In my family, we’ve always watched the AFCON, and for them to now see me play in it will be a great honour. It’s a very special competition to take part in.”

Cameroon are in Group F in Morocco, where they will face defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique.
