Mandla Qhogi says he’s delighted by he progress of former player Mthetheleli Mthiyane at Stellenbosch this season.

Mthiyane played under Qhogi at Milford ahead of his Stellies switch but may well have ended up at Nsingizini Hotspurs.

Qhogi joined the Eswatini giants after his exit from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side and was eager to reunite with the 24-year-old midfielder.

Speaking to FARPost, the former Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United reserve team boss, revealed: “Before he went to Stellenbosch, I was actually planning to come to Eswatini with him.

“But because he found a better opportunity, I had to let him go.”

Qhogi explained that he was confident that Mthiyane was making the right move by joining Steve Barker’s team.

“I would like to extend a big thanks to coach Steve Barker and [Chief Scout] Vinos because they contacted me before they signed Mthetheli,” Qhogi added.

“They asked about his background, his behaviour, and whether he could really help them. Having worked with him, I was able to provide the reference he needed to get this opportunity.

“I am very happy about his progress. At Milford, you could see he was a dedicated boy who always wanted to stand out.

“I think in the next season, we might see him playing for one of the big teams.”
