Betway Premiership side Siwelele have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Sundowns defender Kegan Johannes on a season-long loan deal.
The Free State-based club confirmed the move on Monday, just hours before the PSL transfer deadline.
Johannes, 24, joined Sundowns last year in July after moving from the now-defunct SuperSport United, whose PSL status was acquired by Siwelele.
Despite his promising pedigree, including appearances for South Africa’s Under-23 side and senior national team Bafana Bafana, the defender has struggled for game time at Sundowns, with competition in the starting line-up proving fierce.
The move to Siwelele offers Johannes a chance to reignite his career while playing alongside familiar faces. Many of his new teammates were part of his squad at Matsatsantsa, providing a sense of continuity as he adjusts to his new surroundings.
The signing was officially announced across Siwelele’s social media platforms, generating excitement among their fans. Johannes’ arrival comes at a crucial time for the Free State club, who have been seeking stability both on and off the pitch.
Recently, Siwelele underwent significant changes in their backroom staff, parting ways with assistant coach Andre Arendse and CEO Stan Matthews.
Johannes’ acquisition is part of the club’s broader plan to strengthen the squad and improve their performances in the league.
For Johannes, this loan spell represents an opportunity to showcase his talent, regain match fitness, and contribute to Siwelele’s fight up the Betway Premiership standings.
The defender will be expected to play a key role in helping the team improve its results and provide leadership at the back.
