Betway Prem: Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler reflects on the PSL title race

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler is urging caution amid the club’s impressive start to the new Betway Premiership season, insisting it’s too early to talk about a title challenge.

Following a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Sekhukhune maintained their position at the top of the league table.

The win, secured by a late penalty from striker Bradley Grobler in the 93rd minute, extended their unbeaten run and kept them one point ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Grobler’s goal was his fifth in just seven matches, highlighting his strong individual form.

Despite their current success, Tinkler remains grounded. “I told you it’s still very early days in the season, and we want to be up there,” he said in an interview with FARPost.

“That’s been the purpose and our objective since I’ve arrived at the club that we want to be competing at the highest level.

“So that’s what we’re going to try and achieve but to talk about winning the league way too early,” he added.

Tinkler stressed the importance of staying focused and not getting carried away by the early success. “I think, it’s very important that we stay grounded, don’t let our success so far go to our heads, both players and us as technical staff,” he added.

He acknowledged the hard work that has gone into their strong start and underscored the need for that work ethic to continue.

It’s a quick turnaround for Eric Tinkler and team as they have a midweek appointment with Chippa United. Kick off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is set for 19h30 on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.
