CAF Preview: Kaizer Chiefs gunning for three points against Angola’s Kabuscorp

Kaizer Chiefs get their CAF Confederation Cup campaign away to Angolan Girabola side Kabuscorp SCP on Saturday.

The two teams lock horns in the first preliminary round first leg at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, with kick-off at 17:00.

Amakhosi arrived in Luanda with a 22-man squad but without a head coach after the departure of Nasreddine Nabi.

The Tunisian had missed his side’s three opening games of the new Betway Premiership season while attending to his wife after she was involved in a motor accident.

He made a brief return to the side for the goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows and a 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United before announcing his permanent departure.

It has been reported that Nabi allowed his UEFA Pro License to expire and was therefore unable to sit on the bench for Chiefs throughout their CAF campaign, but that claim has since been brought into doubt.

Amakhosi sealed their place in the competition by virtue of winning the Nedbank Cup, as Kabuscorp lifted the Angolan Cup.

Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will regain control of the team for the trip to Kabuscorp, who ended in ninth place in the 2024/25 Angolan league season.

They have started this campaign with a 3-1 Super Cup loss to Petro de Luanda and a 1-0 league win over Interclube.

Amakhosi defender Inacio Miguel has given his insight into Kabuscorp, having faced the club during his spell with Petro Atletico.

He said in the Sowetan: “I played in Angola for two seasons and have played many times against Kabuscorp.

“I remember that my last goal for Petro was against Kabuscorp, so I am aware of how they play, and I’ve already told my teammates and coaches what to expect. We can expect a difficult game.

“Kabuscorp are a very physical team, they play vertically. Their style of play is similar to some of the PSL teams; they play long balls, they are dangerous with second balls, and they have individual players who can decide a game.

“This fixture is two-legged, so it’s very important for us to keep a clean sheet in Angola. Of course, we have shown that we can keep clean sheets.”
