Mammila Backs Management's Decisions: "He knows what he is doing and he knows the game" - Morgan Mammila allays fears of instability at Chippa United ahead of Orlando Pirates clash

Chippa United‘s interim coach, Morgan Mammila, has come out to defend the club’s recent and rapid changes to its technical staff, dismissing fears of instability.

His comments follow a tumultuous period for the Betway Premiership side that has seen three different coaches in just four league games.

Mammila’s first match in charge saw Chippa United fall 1-0 to Richards Bay, a result that leaves them at the bottom of the log with just one point.

The loss comes after the recent dismissal of head coach Sinethemba Badela and his technical team, reportedly due to a fallout with management. Assistant coach Musa Nyatama also departed after overseeing a heavy 4-1 defeat to TS Galaxy.

Speaking to the Sowetan, Mammila offered his full support for club chairman Siviwe Mpengesi, who is known for his frequent and often controversial coaching changes.

“That’s football — wise men always take decisions, and Chippa has been in the PSL for 11 years,” Mammila stated. “I don’t think there is anyone who doubts the capabilities of the club and the chairman. He knows what he is doing and he knows the game. That’s why the team has been there for some time.”

Mammila’s comments aim to reassure fans and critics that the club’s constant churn of coaches is part of a calculated strategy, rather than a sign of chaos.

That being said, the team’s position at the bottom of the table suggests that these decisions have yet to yield positive results on the field. The club is reportedly looking to appoint a new head coach, with Luc Eymael rumored to be the frontrunner if he can secure a work permit.

Eyes on the Next Big Challenge

Chippa United’s difficult start to the season will be tested once more with their next fixture against Orlando Pirates at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this Sunday at 15:00. Mammila remains optimistic, focusing on his own team’s performance rather than the reputation of their opponents.

“There is a big one coming up,” he said. “We are in the league, 11 v 11. Of course, they have experience, but we have capable players who can beat any team. I’m not worried about the opponent, I’m worried about my team only.”

He emphasized the need for his players to quickly adapt to his methods. “They must just apply themselves according to how we train. We just need to roll quicker because this league is tough.”
